Course Objectives
We show participants a systematic approach to report writing enabling attendees to write better reports in less time. A practice driven workshop to improve participant's ability to write in Business English and increase chances of gaining a clear concise message.
Participants will learn to convey information with clarity and precision in memos, letters, reports and other business correspondence. A personalized approach to writing based on identifying the audience driven needs enables a clear concise message to be delivered. Participants critique their own writing styles and identify strengths and areas for improvement. They then practice making these necessary changes in the classroom practice exercises. Practice focuses on proven writing techniques. This workshop guarantees an improvement in communication skills and as a result increases productivity and job satisfaction.
Course Outline
Participants in this Business Writing Workshop will learn to:
• Use a writing style that is both professional and clear
• Feel more confident preparing written reports
• Analyze reader needs before starting reports
• Organize writing for effectiveness
• Write and edit by asking five simple questions:
1. Reader analysis-who is my reader?
2. Organization: What do I want to happen as a result of this document?
3. Lists: Do I repeat words?
4. Headings: What topics do I cover?
5. Style: How formal?
• Use a number of easy-to-learn report-writing techniques
• Ensure their reports are well structured, that they flow logically and look professional
• Make their reports easier to read, and therefore to understand
• Make essential parts of the report stand out
• Make it easy for different readers to navigate around the report
• Produce documents that enhance the image of both the writer and the organization
